On a Mac, change that to “ All Styles” using the “ List” menu at the bottom of the Styles Pane. By default, you will see “ Recommended” styles. Once you have the pane open, you can filter the styles you see.
The Windows Styles pane can be opened with the keyboard shortcut: Alt+Ctrl+Shift+S. On Windows, click the subtle “ Styles” icon at the lower right of the Styles section on the Home ribbon. If you don’t see the heading level you want in the styles section of the ribbon, you can bring up a more complete list of styles.
Once you get to the second page of your paper, you will need to format how the header will appear for the rest of the paper. After typing in the running header, press the Tab key until the cursor is at the one inch margin on the right side of the page. Ensure that the font matches the font you'll be using for the rest of your paper. Type the running head for your paper in the header box. In the Header & Footer section, select the Header option and then choose Blank from the menu beneath it.īefore typing anything into the header section that appears at the top of the screen, select the check box that says Different First Page, located beneath the Header & Footer Tools tab.
